Marine Conservation Program

The Marine Conservation Program brings together funders interested in supporting ocean conservation to share strategies and partnership opportunities to improve the effectiveness of their grantmaking. Our members’ interests span a range of ocean-related issues, from global fisheries and climate change to Indigenous rights and local community wellbeing to 30×30 and nature-based solutions.

Through our annual meeting and associated programs, we provide a venue for both new and experienced grantmakers to deepen their understanding of current topics in marine conservation, engage with a range of experts to improve our understanding of emerging issues and policy levers in ocean conservation, and explore new science, tools, and approaches to ocean conservation and grantmaking.

BFG’s Marine Conservation Program is a distinctive place for leading ocean funders to learn together, establish strong relationships, and engage in deep, productive, and sustained collaboration that strengthens grantees.

Biodiversity Funders Group 2024 Annual Member Meeting

Register now for the BFG Annual Member Meeting taking place June 10 through June 13, 2024 at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine.

Why should you attend our yearly gathering?

  • Our gatherings have been instrumental networking opportunities for environmental, conservation, and climate and energy funders
  • A place where grantmakers find friends, mentors, and collaborators.
  • Our planning committee spends months outlining an intentional agenda of engaging speakers, workshops, and field trips.
  • Topics of conversation include: Offshore wind, endangered species protection, transboundary fish passage, Tribal sovereignty and Land Back, private forests, working waterfronts, PFAS contamination, and much more–coastal Maine is a perfect backdrop to examine many complex and intertwined biodiversity issues.

Whether you’re a birder, hiker, or working waterfront enthusiast, you’ll have a hard time choosing among the array of land and sea based options. In addition to the traditional Wednesday field trips, we’re offering two optional field trips (more info available on the registration site).
