ABOUT CGBD
The Consultative Group on Biological Diversity (CGBD) is a grantmakers forum that seeks to focus attention on issues and program opportunities related to the conservation and restoration of biological resources. Established in 1987, the CGBD is now comprised of 54 foundations and the U.S. Agency for International Development. The CGBD is funded by program grants from its members; it is not a grantmaking organization.
A Board of Directors, composed of representatives from nine member foundations, serves as the governing body. The CGBD is supported by a six-person secretariat in the Presidio of San Francisco. The secretariat serves as a resource and catalyst, providing information, generating ideas, and connecting foundations that share common grantmaking agendas.
The CGBD sponsors and acts as fiscal agent for the Health and Environmental
Funders Network (HEFN), a mostly virtual network of more than 180 foundation
professionals interested in the nexus of health and the environment.
The CGBD is a publicly supported organization recognized with a 501(c)(3) designation from the Internal Revenue Service.
